Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills that will enable them to safely and competently undertake and perform the duties of a Vehicle marshaller on site in line with CPCS guidelines.

The CPCS card scheme provides a registration card scheme acknowledged by industry for those involved in plant operations by recognising skills, knowledge and understanding, competence and qualifications. The scheme is based on a mix of occupational competence, experience on site and health and safety awareness.

Learning Outcomes

  • Roles and responsibilities as a Vehicle Marshal
  • Hazards, health and safety, and current legislation
  • Understanding signs, signals, and different forms of communication
  • Identification and maintenance of PPE for Vehicle/Plant Machinery Marshal
  • Conducting safety checks at the work area, including stop blocks and tipping areas
  • Setting up exclusion zones for unloading
  • Guiding machinery in forward and reverse directions, including confined spaces and "blind spots"
  • End-of-shift, shutdown, and parking procedures

Assessment

  • CPCS Theory Test (verbal - 30 minutes)
  • CPCS Practical Test (50 minutes)

Entry Requirement

  • All candidates must have achieved the relevant CITB HS&E test within 2 years of their booked CPCS test date
  • It is important that any candidates have a good understanding of spoken and written English, interpreters are available upon request for those who are not fluent in English.
  • All candidates will need to provide their own appropriate PPE for training and testing purposes.

Certification

Successful candidates will obtain a CPCS ‘Construction Plant Competence Scheme’ card on completion, if they don’t currently hold a relevant NVQ they’ll be issued with a CPCS Red Trained Operator card (2 year validity). During the 2 year lifespan of the card candidates will need to work towards the relevant plant operations NVQ that will enable them to upgrade their Blue Competent Operator card (5 year validity).

CITB Levy Registered?

For those registered with CITB, KH Plant Training facilitates automatic CITB grant claims on completion. The application is submitted on behalf of the learner

Summary

The course involves a substantial mix of practical and theoretical tuition. Novice delegates undergo theory training to prepare for the Theory Test. Courses, taught by industry experts, aim to be enjoyable while ensuring candidates acquire the knowledge and skills needed for CPCS assessment. Delegates receive a CPCS operator’s card upon successful completion.

At the time of booking a Novice course, all delegates receive KH Plant Training’s CPCS Study Guides. Pre-course reading is encouraged.
